Former IRS CIO Named As DHS New CIO

spires_r_100x140Department of Homeland Security has officially named Richard Spires as Chief Information Officer. Spires started his own consulting practice after leaving his position as CIO and deputy commissioner for operations support at the IRS in 2008. Spires is most known for turing around the IRS business systems modernization program (BSM) during his 3 years at the IRS.

DHS Secretary Janet  Napolitano said in a written statement,”Richard has an impressive record of managing large-scale IT programs and I look forward to working with him to find more efficient and innovative ways to help the department meet its strategic and information resource management goals.”
