IBM, Cisco to Unveil Smart Grid Pilot in Amsterdam

IBM and Cisco have announced a pilot smart grid project for 500 households in Amsterdam to increase energy efficiency.  The program is part of the Amsterdam Smart City initiative which endeavors to make Amsterdam a more sustainable city.  

The IBM and Cisco will take part in a consortium to implement smart metering and home energy management technology in homes to give customers the feedback necessary to reduce their energy usage.  Cisco will provide IP-based management solutions enabling real-time, secure monitoring of appliances and energy systems while IBM will provide software and web-based technology.

With this pilot, we hope to demonstrate how smart and connected communities can be more energy conscious and more green.”
