Executive Profile: Teresa Carlson, Amazon Web Services VP of the World Wide Public Sector

Carlson_Teresa_smallTeresa Carlson serves as the vice president of the world wide public sector at Amazon Web Services where she is responsible for operations, strategy, sales and business development.

The more than 20-year industry veteran is also the head public policy advisor for the global public sector at AWS and oversees revenue and partnership strategy.

Prior to joining Amazon in 2010, Carlson was a VP of sales and operations for Microsoft Corp.’s $1.7 billion federal business where she was responsible for public sector sales in the U.S. as well as product marketing.

Carlson held a number of other roles at Microsoft during her eight years at the firm, including general manager of U.S. Civilian Agencies and NGOs, director of the U.S. federal solutions unit and U.S. federal director of strategy and operations.

amazon web servicesBefore joining Microsoft, she served as world wide vice president of marketing and business development for Lexign Inc. and led the relaunch of the company after a merger.

Carlson is also a veteran of the healthcare field, where she held roles including area vice president and business manager during 15 years in the industry.

She was a Federal Computer Week Fed 100 award winner in 2013 and 2009 and has been named to Washingtonian Magazine’s “100 Most Powerful Women” list. Her work in the community includes the roles of board chairman of the American Red Cross in the National Capital Region and member of the WolfTrap Foundation’s board of directors.

Carlson received an undergraduate and Masters of Science degree in communications and speech and language pathology from Western Kentucky University.
