Stu Shea, formerly president and chief operating officer at Leidos, has joined the board of trustees at nonprofit scientific research company Riverside Research.

Riverside Research said Friday it appointed Shea for his close-to three decades of experience at technology-focused government contractors in background in strategy and business development.

“I am honored to be part of a company that has such a strong history of excellence in moving science from the laboratory to the field for the benefit of our nation,” said Stu Shea. “Their unique combination of trusted technical and scientific expertise and mission-focused solutions is exciting to be part of.”

Shea previously served as the chief operating officer of the former Science Applications International Corp. during which the company was spun off into SAIC and Leidos,

He was also SAIC’s president of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance group prior to his COO role.

“Mr. Shea’s proven track record of success in both executive and board positions will bring tremendous value to Riverside Research,” said Richard Annas, Riverside Research president.

The three-decade intelligence veteran held several director roles at TASC for 18 years after time as a technical director at PAR Technology Corp.

Shea at present is a member of the advisory boards of George Mason University’s College of Science, National Intelligence University Foundation, University of Kansas’ College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation.

He was an inductee into Executive Mosaic’s Wash100 list for 2013, a roster of business executives who drive innovation and growth at the intersection of the public and private sectors.
