Cunningham and Lindqvist will lead work to develop tools in an effort to speed up privacy and security technological innovations, craft guidelines for the creation of secure software application codes and promote cybersecurity adoption across the industry, IEEE said Wednesday.
“With their remarkable breadth of experience, Rob and Ulf will add unique perspectives to accelerate the practice of efficient cybersecurity,” said Greg Shannon, former chair of the initiative and CERT division chief scientist at Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute.
Cunningham is head of the secure resilient systems and technology team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory.
He was the general chair for the 2012 IEEE security and privacy symposium and led the computer network technology transition and defense research working group at the National Security Agency.
Lindqvist serves as computer science laboratory program director at SRI International and chair-elect and vice chair of the IEEE Computer Society’s technical committee on security and privacy.
He holds a patent for a platform intended for application layer-based security threat detection and has at least 30 computer security-related publications.
