EPA Recognizes Boeing for Energy Efficiency Initiatives; Kim Newton Comments

BoeingLogoBoeing has been chosen to receive a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency award for the company’s efforts to integrate energy conservation tools and methods into its business operations.

The company said Monday it will accept the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award from the agency during a ceremony that is scheduled to take place in  Washington on April 13.

It is the sixth consecutive year that EPA has recognized the company under its ENERGY STAR program.

Kim Newton, director of operational excellence at Boeing’s shared services group, noted the program has helped encourage the company to adopt energy-efficiency strategies.

“We are on track to meet our environmental targets of zero growth by 2017 in greenhouse gas emissions, even while increasing production rates and adding new manufacturing facilities,” she added.

During 2015, the company made $7.7 million in direct energy conservation investments, cut its energy consumption by about 4.3 percent and expanded the content of its Build a Better Planet engagement platform.
