The Aerospace Corporation has appointed Heidi Shyu as the newest member of its board of trustees.

Shyu brings experience from her previous roles as the assistant secretary for acquisition, logistics and technology at the U.S. Army and as an acquisition executive, science adviser to the secretary and senior research and development official for various offices, the company said Tuesday.

Prior to her work in the Army, Shyu held leadership positions at Raytheon‘s space and airborne systems unit as corporate vice president of technology and research, vice president of technology strategies and technical director of space and airborne systems, among others.

She also served in various roles at Litton Industries, Northrop Grumman and Hughes Aircraft Company.

She received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of New Brunswick and master’s degrees in mathematics and system science from the University of Toronto and University of California in Los Angeles, respectively.

The former ASA (ALT) retired from her post in January after more than three years managing a workforce of 42,000 employees and leading 13 program executive offices.
