DigitalGlobe Facilitates Satellite Imagery Exercises for Employees’ Children to Promote STEM Careers

Satellite AirforceGPSDigitalGlobe held a “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” on April 28 to let employees’ children participate in satellite imagery and mapping exercises and introduce them to the company’s technological offerings.

The space imagery and geospatial data provider said Monday it engaged the children in a discussion on DigitalGlobe’s satellite constellation in efforts to inspire them to take a science, technology, engineering and math-related career.

The company added it facilitated exercises where the kids identified Washington landmarks from a WorldView-2 image and mapped the city from memory.

The children also helped update a map of an elementary school in northeastern Massachusetts through the OpenStreetMap editable crowdsourcing platform, DigitalGlobe added.

Tony Frazier, DigitalGlobe senior vice president for government solutions, took his son Bryce Frazier to the event and helped the second-grader use the OSM map to put his school on it.

DigitalGlobe noted the exercises aimed to educate the children on what their parents do at work and how these industry efforts work to impact the worldwide dissemination of information.
