Avi Pfeffer, formerly a principal scientist at Charles River Analytics, has been named chief scientist of the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based defense and intelligent systems developer.
He brings 20 years of probabilistic modeling and programming technology research and development experience to his new role, Charles River Analytics said Thursday.
Karen Harper, president of Charles River Analytics, said Pfeffer will lead a portfolio of R&D efforts in the sensor processing, data fusion, probabilistic reasoning and human-machine interaction areas.
Pfeffer developed the company’s Figaro open-source probabilistic programming language and wrote a book titled “Practical Probabilistic Programming.”
Before he joined Charles River in 2011, he worked as an associate professor at Harvard University from September 1999 to May 2009 and served as a research assistant at Stanford University from 1995 to 1999.
