Mitre Picks Systems from Van Cleve & Associates, Open Works Engineering as Countering UAS Contest Winners

droneMitre has selected platforms from Van Cleve & Associates and Open Works Engineering as winners of the nonprofit organization’s Countering Unmanned Aircraft Systems Challenge.

The two winners were selected out of the eight finalists for the C-UAS competition that seeks new systems designed to detect and interdict small drones that pose security or safety risks, Mitre said Thursday.

Van Cleve & Associates’ DroneRanger won $80,000 in total prizes for best end-to-end system and best detection tool, while Open Works Engineering’s SkyWall 100 won $20,000 in the interdiction system category.

Mitre announced the winners after it conducted a nine-day live flight tests that kicked off Aug. 10 at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia.

Other finalists include:

  • DeDrone for the DroneTracker system
  • Department 13 International for the Mesmer platform
  • Lockheed Martin for the Icarus system
  • MyDefense Communications for the Knox platform
  • Radio Hill Technologies for the Dronebuster system
  • TrustComs for the DroneBlocker tool

Mitre selected the eight finalists in June seven months after it launched the contest.
