Education Dept, NASA Partner on Bus Tour to Promote STEAM Education

nasa-art-busThe Education Department has held a bus tour that sought to promote NASA‘s journey to Mars program and inspire students to take up higher education in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.

The Opportunity Across America bus traveled across 11 cities in six states in an effort to foster STEAM education to students, teachers, parents and school officials, NASA said Saturday.

“Through investment in comprehensive and innovative educational opportunities, NASA expands equality for all students to participate, including the disadvantaged or geographically isolated,” said Johnny Stephenson, director of the office of strategic analysis and communication at Marshall Space Flight Center.

NASA said it employs graphic artists, web designers, photographers and videographers who work to create computer animation, imagery, posters and other media products to help relay space exploration and scientific discovery to the public.

The tour included an activity where students were asked to draw what they interpret as “opportunity” on the side of the bus.

The space agency added that the program also worked to provide communities the opportunity to converse with education leaders on how they could gain access to digital technology and boost graduation rates.
