Tony Zinni: Interim CEO of BAE Systems

Gen. Anthony (Tony) Zinni will be stepping in as acting president and CEO of BAE Systems Inc.. Zinni is the current chairman of the BAE board and will be the interim CEO until a permanent replacement for Walt Havenstein can be found.

Zinni holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Villanova University, a master’s in international relations from Salvae Regina College, a master’s in management and supervision from Central Michigan University and honorary doctorates from The College of William and Mary and the Marine Maritime Academy. He was commissioned in the Marine Corps, as a Second Lieutenant, upon graduation from Villanova University. Zinni went on to serve, during the Vietnam War and after, in various assignments such as platoon, company, battalion, regimental, Marine expeditionary unit, and Marine expeditionary force command. He is also a former Commander-in-Chief for U.S. Central Command and retired from the Marine Corps in 2000.

After his military career, Zinni has served on numerous boards of directors for US companies and non-profits, including MuDynamics and First Command. He served on the board of DynCorp International and was their executive vice president from July 18, 2007 to the end of 2008.

Zinni has also held academic appointments as the Harriman Professor of Government appointment and membership on the board of the Reves Center for International Studies at the College of William and Mary, the Nimitz Chair at the University of California-Berkeley, the Weissberg Chair in International Studies at Beloit College, the StanleyChair in Ethics Virginia Military Institute, the board of Villanova University’s Center for Responsible Leadership and Governance, and the Hofheimer Chair at the Joint Forces Staff College.

Zinni recently travelled on the United States Special Envoy to the Middle East and co-wrote Battle Ready with Tom Clancy.
