BAE Systems has won two contracts totaling over $2 billion enabling them to add approximately 75 jobs to their Massachusetts and New Hampshire locations. The two contracts are for driver vision enhancers and laser locator modules. Under this contract, BAE, a defense contractor, will be building laser-based targeting and all-weather visibility systems.
This contract further demonstrates the growth occurring in the defense electronic technologies sector in New England, despite the economic climate and other cost cutting measures undertaken by the government.
The company, which is based in the U.K., has created hundreds of jobs for engineers and manufacturing workers over the past year at various locations throughout the U.S. with domestic operations headed up in Rockville, MD. Primary production for the new undertaking will take place in Lexington, with testing and assembly conducted in Nashua. There will also be assistance from the Virginia location. All of these facilities will be able to create new positions.
