Executive Profile: John J. Hamre of CSIS

Hamre is the president and CEO for the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and he was also recently appointed to the Oshkosh Corps. board of directors.

Before his position at CSIS, Hamre served as the deputy secretary of defense from 1997 until 2000. From 1993-1997, he served as undersecretary of defense (comptroller). In 2007, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates appointed Hamre to serve as chairman of the Defense Policy Board.

Hamre received his undergraduate degree from Augustana College, and he earned his doctorate degree from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.
