Executive Profile: Jim Lewis of CSIS

jimlewisAs director and senior fellow of CSIS’s technology and public policy program, Jim Lewis’s research involves innovation and economic change; Internet policy and cybersecurity; space programs; and intelligence reform.

Prior to joining CSIS, Lewis was a member of the U.S. Foreign Service and Senior Executive Service where he worked on national security and technology-related issues. Some of the policies he helped develop include counterinsurgency in Asia and Central America, military basing in Asia, and conventional arms transfers.

Lewis led the U.S. delegation to the Wassenaar Arrangement Experts Group for advanced civil and military technologies. He was also assigned to the U.S. Southern Command (for Operation Just Cause), the U.S. Central Command (for Operation Desert Shield), and to the U.S. Central American Task Force.

Lewis is the author of numerous publications, including “Securing Cypberspace in the 44th Presidency” and “Preserving America’s Strength in Satellite Technology.”

Lewis received his doctorate degree from the University of Chicago in 1984.
