Executive Profile: Phillip J. Bond of TechAmerica

Phillip J. Bond is president and CEO of TechAmerica, a position he has held since 2008 when he partnered with Christopher W. Hansen to form the company. Bond is also president of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance, a network of industry associations representing 70 high-tech trade groups worldwide.

Between 2006 and 2008, Bond’s role was as president and CEO of the Information Technology Association of America. In that capacity, Bond helped to drive the April 1, 2008 merger with the Government Electronics and Information Technology Association.

Before joining ITAA, Bond served as senior vice president of government relations for Monster Worldwide, the online career site. He was also general manager of Monster Government Solutions.

From 2001 to 2005, Bond was under secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce for Technology and, from 2002-2003, served concurrently as chief of staff to Commerce Secretary Donald Evans. Bond’s duties included increasing market access for U.S. goods and services and further advancing America’s technological leadership domestically and around the world.

Bond made the transition to the administration from the private sector where he served as director of federal public policy for the Hewlett-Packard Company, and previously as senior vice president for government affairs and treasurer of the Information Technology Industry Council.

Bond has also in the past worked as chief of staff to Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn (R-WA). He was principal deputy assistant secretary of defense for legislative affairs from 1992 to 1993. He also held another chief of staff role for Congressman Bob McEwen (R-OH) from 1990 to 1992. From 1987 to 1990, he served as special assistant to the secretary of defense for legislative affairs.
