Executive Profile: John A. Sutton of Global Crossing

John Sutton serves as General Manager of the Federal Sector business for Global Crossing. In this position, he is responsible for pulling together the company’s global resources to better serve government customers.

Prior to joining Global Crossing, Sutton was Senior Vice President for Defense and Intelligence of ManTech International Corporation’s Mission, Cyber, & Technology Solutions Group. He leads the company’s business and operations in the Department of Defense, including defense intelligence agencies. Sutton manages a team of more than 750 employees and $210 million in annual revenue while holding profit and loss responsibilities. He manages the group’s technology, strategic planning, business development and program operations. Some of the programs Sutton has led include A-Space, Intelligence Community Data Layer, the Joint Intelligence Task Force for Combating Terrorism, Air Force SOA Infrastructure, TRANSCOM Customs Automation and DoD CIO’s HorizontalFusion.

Sutton joined ManTech in 2007 after its acquisition of McDonald Bradley Inc. Prior to joining McDonald Bradley in 2004, Sutton was vice president for uniformed services at Integic Corporation, delivering workflow and portal solutions to the military. Before Integic, Sutton was vice president and general manager of GRC International’s applied technology business unit, where he led 600 professionals and delivered $98 million in annual revenue.

Prior to GRC International, Sutton was with PRC Inc., where he executed and managed contracts supporting integrated weapons and shipbuilding programs for the Navy. Sutton was involved in the success of the Navy’s AEGIS program in the design, construction and delivery of the CG-47 Class Cruisers and the DDG-51 Class Destroyers.

A former U.S. merchant marine officer, Sutton served on U.S. flag ships as third mate, second mate and chief mate.

Sutton has served on the advisory boards of the George Mason University School of Management, Blue Canopy LLC, and is currently active with AFCEA and INSA. Sutton was a primary contributor to the Association for Enterprise Integration working group that produced cross-industry position papers on the acquisition of SOA and shared services for the DoD CIO and AT&L.

Sutton has a bachelor’s degree in marine transportation from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and a master’s degree in business administration from George Mason University.
