Microsoft’s Scott Miller on Finding Top Technologists

Last week, Scott Miller, general manager of Microsoft’s National Security Services business, talked to TheNewNewInternet about how one of the major challenges in his role is finding the right candidates and what his company does to recruit top talent.

Speaking about some of the challenges he has met in his role, Miller touched on the difficulties with finding the right people with the right passion to serve Microsoft’s customers.

As we grow and develop our business, it’s been a real challenge to find the right number of people and that perfect person who has the Microsoft technology skills as well as the security clearances to serve our Intelligence Community customers,” he said.

With the growing need for cyber professions, Miller said his company is able to find talent by having a well-known brand and being a reputable business that focuses on security issues. Over the last five to six years, with a trustworthy computing initiative and a security message around its secure development life cycle and its end-to-end trust message with customers, Microsoft has really changed the game and its reputation, he said.

“We have a brand that is recognized throughout the government and throughout the world and a strong security message to now go with that, he said. “People are attracted to that, and they are attracted to work for a company that’s taking security so seriously and one that can make the impacts that we make.”
