AMERICAN SYSTEMS Names Ray Rafaels VP of IMIA

AMERICAN SYSTEMS has announced the appointment of Raymond “Ray” Rafaels as vice president of Identity Management and Information Assurance, a role in which he will lead the company’s IMIA business and help develop the cybersecurity systems engineering business division.

“The battlefield of the future will be in cyberspace, making it imperative that federal agencies be equipped with the most cutting-edge information assurance and ID management solutions available,” said William C. Hoover, president and CEO. “Ray’s experience leading the design and deployment of comprehensive network and cybersecurity services for intelligence, military and civilian agencies will ensure that our customers can protect the critical infrastructure on which our nation’s economy and security depend.”

Rafaels’ background in IT spans over 25 years. Most recently, he ran Information Assurance cybersecurity services business at ManTech International. He directed IA projects with the Missile Defense Agency, U.S. government intelligence agencies, Air Force, Navy, and Defense Information Systems Agency.

Before ManTech, Rafaels held leadership positions at OPNET Technologies, Hughes Network Systems, Hitachi Data Systems, and Computer Associates. Earlier in his career, he managed classified IT development programs, first with the CIA and then within government-contractor companies.

Ray holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in business and engineering administration from The George Washington University. He also is a Cisco-certified network associate and a project management professional.
