FCC Hosts Forum to Discuss Health IT

Healthcare, technology, government and academic experts will convene to explore ways government can ensure the safety and reliability of wireless broadband-enabled medical devices while increasing their availability to consumers and healthcare providers, the Federal Communications Commission announced yesterday.

Held in Washington, D.C., July 26-27, the meeting will feature panel and roundtable discussions,  as well as opening remarks by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski and Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Margaret Hamburg. Along with White House Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra, the two will tour a vendor technology showcase that will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first day of the meeting.

The sessions with focus on topics such as perspectives from innovators, healthcare providers and patients, how to define quality of service, and electromagnetic compatibility.
