ManTech’s Bill Varner Discusses Priorities, Goals and Direction of Cyber Market

Bill Varner of ManTech

Bill Varner sees cybersecurity as an increasingly significant threat to the nation. As president of ManTech’s Mission, Cyber and Technology Solutions Group, Varner is constantly updating the company’s cyber capabilities and solutions to combat this growing threat and differentiate itself in the market.

During an interview with ExecutiveBiz, Varner explained his opinions on where the cyber market is headed, why ManTech’s assets are valuable security solutions and his upcoming top priorities for the company.

“I spend a lot of time these days tracking the cyber legislation moving through Congress,” Varner said. “Now that Gen. Keith Alexander has been confirmed as head of the U.S. Cyber Command, that organization will shape the future of a lot of cyber activity and the primary cyber customer areas.”

But this Washington area native doesn’t solely shape his business agendas on legislation. His top priority? The customers.

“I am focused on our customers and their missions, and our people and their needs, first and foremost,” Varner told ExecutiveBiz. “We also absolutely have to execute our programs flawlessly and meet or exceed our financial obligations to the company and to our shareholders. I have always believed that if we put our customers and our people first, that we will have a much easier time achieving the rest of the goals.”

According to Varner, he has so many ambitions for the company it can get difficult to balance all of them.

“I have so many opportunities to help our customers that it is sometimes difficult to support all of the activities that I want to support simultaneously,” he said.

In the interview, Varner explained how recruiting top talent helps balance the company’s workload.

“We receive a continual flow of talent from the top cyber universities in the country,” he said.
