Tailoring systems, databases and software into the cloud and employees’ common practice may help save businesses money, many experts say.

Kathryn Mihalich, Microsoft’s senior director for worldwide licensing solutions, said there is not a one-size-fits-all proposition for business technology. Her team’s business productivity online suite allows customization in terms of what goes into the cloud.

Mihalich said, “We’re coming into this age of cloud computing, and it’s going to be imperative for me and my team to make sure we’re educating contracting personnel, as well as users, not just on the technology, but the return on investment.”

Customization is also important to reaching employees through learning management systems, said Joe Kopfman, vice president of contracts and administration for AMERICAN SYSTEMS.

“Every single employee has their own tailored LMS,” Kopfman said. That could mean videos, text or learning modules on a variety of different subjects, rather than static content on intranet pages of which employees may not be aware.
