Charles Palmer, the chief technology officer for security and privacy for IBM Research, would like to draw attention to the wide-ranging issue of protecting U.S. networks in the wake of National Cybersecurity Month.

In a blog post, Palmer outlines potential scale, residual effects and difficulties of recovering quickly from a potential cyber attack.

“All companies and organizations have a role to play, from those producing technology or services, to those working to secure their own systems,” he said.

Palmer adds: “Governments can provide helpful legislation and incentives to encourage advances and increase the available cybersecurity workforce. Lastly, every individual needs to make sure that they have done everything possible to protect both their organization, and themselves.”
