Northrop Grumman has announced it has been awarded a contract by the U.K. Ministry of Defense to provide a radio system for its airfield in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
The radio systems will be used for air-traffic control at Camp Bastion, the U.K.’s main airfield, and will also include an emergency radio system and communications training program. Northrop Grumman already provides the U.K. military with communications equipment for its naval ships, shore stations and Royal Air Force bases.
“Our high-performance ground-to-air communications systems will help improve the effectiveness of air traffic management operations at Bastion airfield,” said Sir Nigel Essenhigh, chief executive, Northrop Grumman Information Systems Europe. “We are pleased to be part of the program of equipment enhancements being put in place to support the complex and intense air operations at Bastion.”
