Study: Gen X More Social-Networking Obsessed than Younger Generations

A study conducted by Forrester Consulting has found Generation X workers make up a majority of those who use social networking technologies for business, rather than Generation Y.

In fact, the group with the second-most frequent use after Generation X was workers aged 55 and up.

Overall, use of collaborative and social technologies in the office is on the rise: 64 percent of those who use social networking tools in business use them more than last year.

The study also found Generation Y, despite not being frequent users of social technology, was skeptical of meetings: only 29 percent of them thought meetings used to decide on a course of action are very efficient, compared to 45 percent of baby boomers.

The report was commissioned by Citrix Online, a division of Citrix Systems, Inc.

“We know from our own experience that the workforce is more dispersed and mobile than ever, and that people are increasingly turning to technology to help them collaborate with colleagues and customers many miles away,” said Bernardo de Albergaria, vice president and general manager, global marketing and ecommerce at Citrix Online. “With this research, we aimed to discover exactly how business communication is changing because of new workstyles and tools.”
