Not only does the site aim to bring thrifty couples together, those who can prove they met on a Groupon date will be eligible to apply for a $60,000 college scholarship for their Groupon baby. The site says it will give out two college scholarships each year.
The site even offers tongue-in-cheek advice about how to document first dates without scaring off a potential partner, such as by telling them, “Sorry, I’m a paparazzo and I mistook you for one of them Kardashians,” or “I’m taking all these photos so we can go on a date when you’re not around.”
Despite allegations to the contrary, Groupon Public Relations and Consumer Marketing Manager Julie Anne Mossler told The Atlantic the dating website is authentic.
“In all seriousness, we want to do something for the children and are totally committed to two scholarships per year if people apply that meet eligibility,” she said.
