Military personnel face a multitude of challenges reintegrating into civilian life. Made worse by an uncertain economy in recent years, the career change from active duty to nine to fiver can be a bumpy road.

In an attempt to help smooth the way and fill administrative, acquisitions and technical openings, Booz Allen Hamilton announced this week an agreement to team up with the U.S. Army Partnership for Youth Success program to offer Army soldiers a crack at a job with the consulting firm once their service is over.

Booz Allen joins 375 other corporations in providing career opportunities to returning soldiers through the Army PaYS program. Since 2000, PaYS has worked with businesses, filling vacancies by matching corporate needs with a soldier’s skills.

“Our partnership with the Army PaYS program will further improve our ability to attract the best staff with military backgrounds who have been held to the highest standards and enable them to continue serving our nation in a different and challenging way,” said Betty Thompson, senior vice president. “We’re particularly excited because of how well this agreement to recruit Army soldiers connects to our corporate culture and commitment to a truly diverse workforce.”

Government contracting firms have a legacy of retaining retiring military personnel. Booz Allen is no stranger to the practice. This year, Booz Allen was named top military-friendly employer by G.I. Jobs magazine.
