CGI Federal Inc. announced today Health 2.0 selected the firm as the 2010 winner of its Challenge for Consumer Apps to Visualize Heath Care Quality Measures.
The challenge, supported by the Department of Health and Human Services, seeks applications that assist patients in making smarter healthcare decisions.
“The need for innovation in health IT has never been greater, for patients, physicians, hospitals and insurers, to help all Americans make better, more informed choices,” said Cheryl Campbell, senior vice president of CGI.
Tasked with designing user-friendly healthcare apps, CGI’s winning entry used a web and mobile-based app to help patients compare hospitals. The app includes data on emergency room wait times, contact information and driving directions.
“Our team focused on bringing data to life through easy to read, useful results for today’s healthcare consumer,” said Rich Martin, vice president of CGI. “The app utilizes readily available data which are critical for showcasing the power of IT for improving the health care experience for every American.”
CGI said it plans to donate the $2,500 cash prize to the American Heart Association. The winning application will be featured at the Health 2.0 Conference in March.
