Verizon Boosts Network

Verizon wants to make sure you can hear them now wherever you may roam. The company announced today substantial investments in network enhancements across the country.

The wireless company says the investments to its 3G network will make downloads and Web browsing faster and more reliable. Last week alone, Verizon Wireless announced new cell sites in Pennsylvania, Kansas and Michigan, with investments in South Dakota, Indiana and Minnesota announced today.

As the company gears up to become the largest iPhone provider, Verizon wants to make sure its network can handle the added traffic. If early iPhone sales figures are any indication, the “world’s most reliable network” may soon find out what really sank the Titanic.

Verizon sold out of the phone during the pre-order period in one day, prompting company executives to plead with employees not to buy the phone until later. Customers dissatisfied with AT&T’s service, but avid iPhone fans, are expected to descend on Verizon neighborhood stores.

Verizon often uses mobile cell towers, Cell on Wheels, during events like last week’s golf tournament in Scottsdale, Ariz. If all else fails, COWs can keep the network humming.

The Basking Ridge, N.J., company serves more than 94 million customers and operates 3G and 4G networks.
