Honeywell Plans to Build Plant in Slovakia

Honeywell turbocharger production has ramped up in Slovakia as the company announced today plans for a new manufacturing plant in the town of Presov.

The new facility will primarily produce turbochargers used in light vehicles and light-vehicle commercial applications. Honeywell expects the increasing interest in turbochargers to double over the next five years as fuel-efficient and lower-emission vehicles gain in popularity.

“The new plant in Slovakia further extends Honeywell’s leadership in the development of turbochargers,” said Alex Ismail, president and CEO of Honeywell Transportation Systems. “Turbochargers give car- and truck-makers the flexibility to downsize their engines to increase fuel efficiency as much as 40 percent and reduce emissions without sacrificing the performance that consumers demand.”

Honeywell turbos did $3 billion in business last year. The company credits its Turbo Technologies division as being a leader in turbocharger development. Beyond commercial products and applications, the division also develops turbos with volume displacements of less than 1L to 100L manufactured for use with gasoline, diesel and hybrid engines.
