Northrop Quilts Inspire

There’s something innately comforting about soft, fluffy quilts and pillows. The patchwork design strikes a homey cord. The bright colors lend a cheer. The fabrics warm the body and soul.

Curling up under one wards off the cold of a winter’s evening, cradles in warmth and safety, lulls a body to sleep and soothes the sick.

A great deal of power can be found in those swatches of material. A power that can bring comfort and healing to those who need it most.

A group of Northrop Grumman employees believe in that power. Working with Soaringwords, volunteers from Northrop’s Rolling Meadows facility in Illinois, recently delivered quilts and pillows filled with hope, love and inspiration to the children of St. Alexius Medical Center Hospital.

The quilts and pillows, decorated by the employees with inspirational messages and pictures, were given to children sickened with chronic and serious illnesses. The group hopes the quilts bring cheer and comfort to the children and their families.

“Northrop Grumman is committed to serving our surrounding community through a variety of outreach efforts,” said Jeff Palombo, vice president and general manager of Northrop Grumman’s Land and Self Protection Systems Division. “This is the first time we have worked with Soaringwords locally, and we are excited to bring encouragement through inspirational quilts and pillows to these children. This truly has been a moving experience for everyone involved.”

According to Soaringwords, 22 million children in the U.S. struggle with chronic or serious illnesses. Soaringwords is dedicated to helping those children and their families with the support they need to tackle their challenges. The organization is dedicated to inspiring the children to never give up.
