Oracle is one of eight leading technology companies that has filed letters supporting AT&T Inc.’s proposed $39 billion takeover of T-Mobile USA, a move that is projected to make the telecommunications corporation the largest wireless service provider in the nation.
Oracle joins other industry leaders, including Yahoo, Facebook and Microsoft, in its support of the business acquisition. Sprint Nextel and some consumer advocates have been active opponents of the deal, arguing it would monopolize the market by placing it in the hands of the two most popular companies–AT&T and Verizon–and result in higher prices with poor carrier service.
The transaction, which has been approved by the boards of both AT&T and T-Mobile’s parent, Deutsche Telekom, is projected to close in March of 2012.
