Presidential Telecom Officer Scott Deutchman Joins Neustar

Scott Deutchman, deputy chief technology officer for telecommunications in the Executive Office of the President’s Office of Science and Technology Policy, is going corporate.

The presidential staffer will join Neustar, Inc. (NYSE: NSR) as vice president of legal and external affairs. His new position, set to begin July 5, will handle various issues related to the Internet, telecommunications and innovation.

“We are truly excited to welcome Scott —  a leader in technology and telecommunications policy —  to Neustar,” said Executive Vice President of Legal and External Affairs Scott Blake Harris. “Scott’s strategic strength, innovative spirit and competitive sense make him an outstanding addition to the Neustar team.”

Deutchman assumed a premier role within the OSTP office, advising the nation’s first U.S. chief technology officer and other administration officials on legal, policy and legislative matters involving telecommunications, innovation and technology policy. He worked directly on administration initiatives involving spectrum, public safety and broadband on behalf of the CTO and the OSTP.

Additionally, Deutchman served as acting senior legal adviser on broadband policy to then-Acting Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael J. Copp between January and July 2009, having joined Copps’ office in April 2006 as legal adviser for competition and universal service issues. He has also acted as a democratic counsel to the U.S. House Judiciary Committee.

Deutchman received a bachelor’s from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations and graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
