Accenture UK Managing Director Liv Sandbaek has been honored with the Science and Technology award at the CBI and Real Business’ 2011 First Women Awards, one of 11 women to be recognized at the ceremony.
Anh Nguyen of Computerwold reports Sandbaek, managing director of Accenture’s strategic industrialization program, is the first female member of the tech services company’s leadership team. She was honored for her leadership skills and for making an “outstanding” contribution to the attraction, retention and progression of women in the tech industry. Sandbaek oversees the Accenture Women’s network of more than 3,000 women, and participates in the Girls in IT campaign, an initiative sponsored by the U.K. government to encourage more females to consider tech-related careers.
The CBI and Real Business’ First Women Awards honor women whose accomplishments in the tech industry have opened doors for other women across a wide range of sectors. Other honorees include BT Global Services’ president Emer Timmons, the division’s first female president.
