Companies Getting Ready for Cloud Computing, Survey Says

Large companies in France have taken steps to virtualize their IT environments because they believe cloud computing will help meet their business needs and increase agility in highly competitive markets, an IDC France survey says.

The survey results were announced Thursday by VMware, Accenture and EMC Corporation. IDC’s research explored companies of more than 2,000 employees across all industries in France.

IDC found that nearly 72 percent of companies responding said cloud computing fits their needs. Less than 15 percent would consider a public cloud environment.

One out of four companies had virtualized some of their client desktops, and 17 percent of companies responding plan to virtualize their desktops within 18 months.

Between 67 and 71 percent of companies responding are looking to keep their IT resources pooled within their France-based premises.

“The cloud computing impulse has definitely spread: many large companies  mainly those with more than 5,000 employees – are now developing an IT service industrialization approach through the implementation of private clouds,” said Karim Bahloul, IDC’s director of surveys and research.
