USS Harpers Ferry

The U.S. Navy awarded General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Co. $24.4 million in contract modifications to support the renovation and modernization of the USS Harpers Ferry.

This modification is part of the fiscal year 2011 Extended Docking Phased Maintenance Availability. NASSCO will inspect and test all of the ship’s systems and components. The awards constitute a portion of the work to be accomplished during this activity.

The full value of the contract is expected to reach approximately $100 million and the work is expected to be completed by July 2012. NASSCO’s ship repair organization comprises more than 750 employees and the workers work on all facets of ship repair.

NASSCO leads repair and maintenance work aboard all San Diego imported LSD, LHA and LHD-class amphibious assault ships and FFG 7-class frigates. NASSCO is also working on major overhauls to the USS Bonhomme Richard and USS Rushmore.
