Northrop Team Delivers USO Vision, Strategy by Modernizing Computer, Phone Services

Northrop Grumman team has donated hardware, software and technical expertise to upgrade the computer and phone services at USO locations in downtown San Diego, Calif., and at San Diego International Airport.

“We’re extremely grateful to Northrop Grumman and its team for modernizing our computer and phone services,” said John Dooley, president and CEO of USO San Diego. “Thanks to their generous contributions, the USO will soon have a state-of-the-art system allowing us to more efficiently provide a ‘home away from home’ for U.S. military personnel and their families.”

The USO IT project began in 2010 as existing infrastructure, including decentralized phone and computer networks, was hampering USO’s ability to serve its clients.

USO staff and volunteers can now share files as they organize activities to support U.S. service personnel and also use new teleconferencing tools. The systems will be fully operational before USO moves into new quarters at the airport within two years.

Northrop first created a vision and strategy for USO’s infrastructure before assembling a team, including Microsoft, to implement the upgrades.

Science Applications International Corp. also provided financial contributions to the project.
