Adaptiv makes tanks and other large vehicles invisible to other machines by using lightweight hexagonal pixels, laid on like tiles, which are electrically powered by the vehicles systems. The tiles can be heated up or cooled down individually and by varying the temperature across the different tiles, tank operators can choose whichever pattern they want to appear in the infrared spectrum.
ITworld reports BAE is working on tank invisibility technology for the visual spectrum. They are trying to expand the heat-mimicry into the visible spectrum so it might be possible to make the tank look like something else in daylight as well as at night.
