Contracting Firms Make the Green List

Every year, Newsweek publishes its Green Rankings, where it ranks the top 500 large public companies in the U.S. and the world on environmental performance. The list compares the environmental footprints, environmental management and reporting practices of large companies.

Firms with major contracting operations made their presence known this year, accounting for 14 of the top 50 companies on the U.S. green list.

Top dog on the U.S. list this year was IBM, while HP came in second. IBM and HP were ranked second and 15th on the global list, respectively.

Dell was ranked fifth overall on the U.S. list and had the third-best environmental management score, which measures a company’s environmental performance through policies, programs, targets and certifications. Dell was ranked 25th on the global list.

Accenture was ranked seventh on the U.S. list and 31st on the global list, while Intel was ranked 15th on the U.S. list and 47th on the global list.

Other industry firms on the top 50 slots on the U.S. list were Cisco Systems (29th), Microsoft (31st), Symantec (34th), AT&T (35th), CSC (36th), Boeing (37th), SAIC (44th), Navistar International (47th) and Oracle (48th).
