Deloitte Survey Says Millenials, Gen X Place Career Achievement over Financial Incentives

When evaluating possible career paths, graduate students at leading business schools prefer opportunities for career advancement within an organization over financial incentives, according to a Deloitte survey conducted Thursday-Saturday at the National MBA Human Capital Case Competition at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management.

Of the 43 students surveyed, 64 percent considered job advancement or promotion as the most important factor when deciding where to launch or continue their career. Pay and benefits were more important to 44 percent of respondents and having a “fun” work environment was the prime factor for 33 percent of respondents.

“We are just as interested in learning from these students as they may be in learning from us,” said Garth Andrus, principal at Deloitte Consulting LLP. “Direct exposure to these students through this type of competitive recruiting event is invaluable to our organization.  This approach to recruiting is a response to the swiftly changing demands of tomorrow’s workforce, and we are lucky enough to have brought on a number of great participants from past events to join Deloitte.”
