Verizon Makes USO-Metro’s Circle of Stars for Serving Those Who Serve

The USO of Metropolitan Washington recognized Verizon and named the company to the USO-Metro’s 2011 Circle of the Stars. The award recognizes top-level corporate donors that provide funding supporting USO-Metro’s mission to serve those who service including military service members and their families. Verizon was among the honorees recognized on Friday at the 8th Annual Stars & Stripes Casino Night fundraising event.

Verizon supports the USO lounges at four Washington D.C.-area airports, which include Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport and Joint Base Andrews.

Additionally, Verizon provides troops using the lounges with free phone services for using Verizon voice-over-Internet-protocol service. On top of the financial and phone services, Verizon has donated four iPads along with a supply of mobile phone chargers for troops and their families to use while visiting the lounges.

“Verizon is committed to support the work of the USO,” said Susan Zeleniak, group president for Verizon Federal.  “Establishing these lounges at the Washington airports is a continuation in the company’s long history of support to the U.S. armed forces and their families. Helping the courageous women and men who serve in the U.S. military stay connected while they are traveling is a gesture of appreciation for the sacrifices that they make every day.”
