QinetiQ Wins Popular Science Award for Unmanned Jet Ski

QinetiQ North America recently announced that Popular Science has recognized its Blackfish Unmanned Surface Vehicle as a leading innovation through the “Best of What’s New” awards program.

Blackfish is an unmanned jet ski that supports maritime security, naval special warfare and tactical intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions in ports and shallow water environments such as rivers and lakes.

Blackfish reduces operational costs and increases safety for military and civilian government maritime teams. It can operate in both passive and active mission modes to conduct a variety of tasks from information gathering to interrogation and interdiction of threats.

“With Blackfish, we’ve brought our world-leading expertise in robotics to the maritime environment,” said JD Crouch, president of QinetiQ North America’s technology solutions group. “Unmanned surface vehicles help protect ships and personnel in ports, monitor strategic waterways and provide important information to maritime crews in advance, before they enter hostile areas.”
