Northrop Grumman Corp. facilities have won awards from the Cailifornia Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery for waste reduction and green initiatives.
Northrop said its aerospace systems sites in El Segundo, Palmdale, and Redondo Beach, Calif. won awards for collectively recycling one million pounds of material per year through the state’s Waste Reduction Awards Program.
The facilities each received individual honors:
- The El Segundo facility donates surplus office supplies to 10 local schools, totaling nearly $4,000 per year
- The Redondo Beach site and Los Angeles County host an annual hazardous waste roundup program
- The Palmdale location introduced a commingled-recycling programs
The El Segundo facility’s award represents the 14th consecutive year it has won an award.
Northrop’s navigation systems facility in Woodland Hills also won an award for the 6th consecutive year.
Northrop said the company recovers 100 percent of nearly seven tons of green waste each month at Woodland Hills and reuses the waste as compost.
The California Integrated Waste Management Board introduced the WRAP program in 1993 to recognize California businesses for reducing waste of recyclable products.
