The independent research and development organization said the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems Foundation organizes hands-on robotics competitions.
Since the AUVSI originated, it has awarded more than $1.2 million to students in prize money.
The competitions attract students from around the globe that compete in air, sea, sub-sea and land challenges.
Retired Navy Rear Adm. Fred Byus, vice president for Battelle’s navy and special operations market sector, said the competitions are intended to help build the technical workforce for future industry needs.
Three government contracting firms are sponsoring similar competitions to promote technical careers.
Northrop Grumman, SAIC and URS Corp. are helping the Air Force Association organize its annual high school cyber defense competition.
