Northrop Recognized for Air Traffic Control Product

Northrop Grumman Corp. announced Thursday it received recognition at a conference in Amsterdam for helping provide situational awareness to air traffic controllers.

The company said it won Jane’s Air Traffic Control Global Award, which honors solutions that increase efficiency and safety in the airspace management industry.

The award singled out Northrop’s airport realtime collaboration product, which is meant to provide personnel with effective departure sequencing.

The contractor said the solution is built on existing technology infrastructure and is meant to share data and enable accurate taxi time calculation. The data aims to help coordinate airfield operations.

An industry panel including representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration, Civil Air Navigation Services Organization, International Air Transport Association and Jane’s Information Group representatives select awardees, according to the report.

The software delivers situational awareness pictures by way of web-based tabular and geographical views of the airfield operations, according to the report.

The company has added additional capabilities to its situational awareness portfolio, including a component that will monitor passenger flow as well as an analytics component that will aid to create a view of airport operations, according to Charles Houseago, Northrop’s airport systems group’s managing director.

Lockheed Martin was also recently recognized for its contributions to the satellite community. Lockheed’s team was honored for successfully putting an advanced satellite into orbit despite payload difficulties.
