Rockwell Collins Wins Aviation Week Award for New Antenna

Rockwell Collins has won Aviation Week magazine’s Innovation Challenge Award for developing an omni-directional antenna, the company announced Wednesday.

The company won the award in the communications category.

Bob Newgard, director of advanced radio systems, said the ANT-7000 C-Band Antenna is one-fifth the size, weight and cost of traditional airborne directional antennas.

The antenna is also omni-directional and can receive signals for any direction.

Directional antennas are pointed mechanically and can only receive communications at one point at a time.

The competition recognizes aerospace and defense suppliers for responding to market needs, cost improvements and positive effects on integration barriers.
