Kroll Advisory Solutions Names FBI Vet Timothy Ryan to Head Digital Forensics Team; Robert Brenner Comments

Kroll Advisory Solutions has appointed former FBI cyber squad leader Timothy Ryan a managing director, the Altegrity subsidiary announced Monday.

He will lead a digital forensics team working on global cyber investigations and data breaches, including assignments related to cybercrime, data breach investigations, response and intellectual property protection.

The subsidiary is responding to challenges involving digital commerce and globalization by providing clients resources for managing risk, said Robert Brenner, a senior managing director and practice leader of the investigations and disputes group in the Americas.

Former ABC News reporter Mary Fulginti joined the subsidiary in April to help clients with corporate investigations, regulatory matters and other potential legal issues.

While at the FBI, Ryan supervised a U.S. cyber squad and led investigations involving computer intrusions, corporate espionage, insider attacks, service denial, internet fraud, malware outbreaks and trade secrets theft.

In 2009 and 2010, Ryan served as acting director of the FBI’s New Jersey regional computer forensic lab and also has conducted computer forensic examinations with the FBI’s computer analysis and response team.

Before joining the FBI, he was a private practice attorney and also served as a military police officer with the U.S. Army during the 1991 Persian Gulf War and the troop deployment leading up to that war.

As an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University’s law school, Ryan teaches cybersecurity and cybercrime to law students, defense attorneys, prosecutors and homeland security professionals.
