Executive Profile: Sherry Covell, Harris IT Services Intel Programs VP

Sherry Covell

Sherry Covell is vice president of intelligence programs for Harris Corp.’s information technology services unit, a prime contractor of communication systems and information networks in government and commercial markets.

The unit works with customers in the defense, intelligence, homeland security, civilian and commercial sectors in cloud services, cybersecurity and information assurance, enterprise managed services, mobility and systems integration.

According to the company, her nearly 25 years of systems engineering and program management experience includes projects for the Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Navy, Army, intelligence, federal law enforcement and international governments.

Her most previous position was vice president of talent management, where she oversaw company-wide recruitment, learning and development, succession planning, employee retention and global inclusion.

Prior to that, she served as vice president of business development for national programs within the government communications systems division, where she lead strategic planning and management for those programs.

Covell has also served as director of business development in the company’s proprietary business area and director of programs for the wireless products group. In these roles, she established strategies, fostered relationships and managed account plans with customers and partners in the intelligence community.

She is a member of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association and the National Defense Industrial Association. She also serves on the board of directors of Brevard County’s Early Learning Coalition and serves on the United Way Community Impact Committee.

Before joining Harris, she worked for the Mitre Corp. and at Johns Hopkins University’s Applied Physics Laboratory.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Drexel University and a master’s degree in computer science from Johns Hopkins University. She is also a graduate of the Mahler Advanced Management Skills Program and the Executive Leadership Program at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.
