iRobot Names BAE Vet Frank Wilson Defense, Security Lead; Jeff Beck Comments

Frank Wilson

IRobot Corp. has appointed veteran BAE Systems executive Frank Wilson to lead the robotics firm’s defense and security unit, the Boston Business Journal reports.

Tim Trainer, the unit’s previous acting interim general manager, will continue serving vice president of programs, according to Julie Donnelly’s story.

Wilson brings experience in leading businesses and driving business development in evolving defense budget environments, Chief Operating Officer Jeff Beck said, according to the report.

At BAE, Wilson served as sector VP of business development and mission applications, which posted $4.2 billion in revenues for 2011, Donnelly reports.

IRobot is developing new technologies for robots in special operations and infantry missions, he added.

The company’s military unit makes the SUGV and PackBot robots, which attempt to disarm improvised explosive devices with the goal of preventing troop casualties.
