Nanterme, a board member since 2000, succeeded Green as CEO in 2011.
“We recognize the significant contributions that Bill Green has made to Accenture during his 34-year career with the company, including six years as CEO, and we thank him for the excellent stewardship he has provided as chairman,” Lead Director Sir Mark Moody-Stuart said in a release.
Green became chairman of the board in 2006 and served as CEO from 2004 to 2011, during which the company credits him with doubling the workforce and launching its Skills to Succeed corporate citizenship initiative.
In a similar vein, IBM CEO Virginia Rometty succeeded Samuel Palmisano as board chairman earlier this month, nine months after Rometty succeeded Palmisano to become the company’s ninth chief executive.
